New ABBA 12 incher with "Voulez-Vous" out April 21!.

ABBA- Voulez-Vouz /If It Wasn’t for the Nights, Universal 00602527957302, 12 inch single, April 21, 2012

Here we go again with the vinyl collectibles of stuff we already have. ABBA will release a limited edition 12-inch vinyl single for Record Store Day on Saturday, April 21. The A-Side features "Voulez-Vous (Extended Dance Remix)", originally released as a promo-only single in the United States and France. This marks the first commercial vinyl release of this remix. On the flip side is another dance number  “If It Wasn't For The Nights”, originally released on the Voulez-Vous album. The Voulez-Vous dance mix can also be found , if I am not mistaken on the Definitive Collection 2CD set. Here's a idea for a release of previously released material . You know what I might bought?  How about a vinyl LP with the five officially released 1982 songs or let's say one with all the  B-sides. Neither of those compilations has been tried yet.  Or how about all the Bjorn lead vocals on one LP, well maybe not that one.

This limited edition  Record Store Day release is pressed on blue glitter vinyl and packaged in a cardboard sleeve. The 12-inch single, which is limited to 4 or 5,000 numbered copies (catalogue number 00602527957302), is for sale exclusively in participating stores. Whitney Houston dies. Once sang a CHESS song.

It has been reported the legendary American Pop/Soul singer, Whitney Houston died.  There is a small ABBA connection for her, she recorded the Andersson-Rice-Ulvaeus song, "I Know Him So Well" see details below....

Whitney Houston-Whitney American CD June 2, 1987
Whitney covered Tim Rice & B&B's "I Know Him So Well" from CHESS on this her second studio album ."I Know Him So Well"- is done as a duet with Whitney's mother, Cissy Houston. The duet is good though not  exactly the hit material of some her other recordings.
The Whitney  album included four huge American hits- "I Wanna Dance With Somebody -Who Loves Me" "Didn't We Almost Have It All" "So Emotional "and "Where Do Broken Hearts Go ". The album was recorded from September 1986 to February 1987. The over nine million copies sold of this album (in the US alone)  make this album is one the largest selling albums with a song written by Bjorn and Benny on it. "I know Him So Well" was produced by Narada Michael Walden.

Track listing:
1. I Wanna Dance With Somebody -Who Loves Me
2. Just the Lonely Talking Again

Frida and Genesis

Frida and Phil Collins
I was having a little Genesis festival at home recently. Genesis of course, went into the Rock and Hall of Fame with ABBA the same year.. I was listening to stuff from Genesis's  pop orientated 1980's albums like Abacab, Genesis and Invisible Touch.

While going through some stuff on YouTube, I was reminded that Frida recorded her own version of a 1980 Phil Collins solo ballad called "You Know What I Mean". I was surprised at how well it holds up. It has a harp backing, but Frida's vocals are genuinely emotional, and as evocative as the excellent harp. This track is found on Frida's 1982 solo album-Something's Going On which was produced by Phil Collins.

It is Phil's famous Drum hook, that makes the title track such a great record.  Of course, it also seems like he's taken over the album sometimes with his drum playing.
Phil also was responsible for encouraging Frida to write a few songs for the Shine sessions.  Frida had wanted Phil to produce that album too, but he did not have the time.

Other Genesis connections with ABBA is that they were on the same recording label (Atlantic) in the United States and that Genesis recorded a few tracks at Polar Music Studio. Also, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the same year....

On a  semi- related side note, I was surprised to see how old former Genesis member, Peter Gabriel gotten, he's lost most of his hair, and has a white beard. People should not get lose their hair or get old.
Of course, Phil Collins  began  losing his hair right before our very eyes back in the 1980's.
